CBAD 120 (Q) Introduction to the Global Culture of Business. (Credit Hours: 3) This course provides a foundation of basic business concepts in the context of current issues and trends in a global organizational setting. All content areas of the College of Business are surveyed with an emphasis on the impacts of cultural differences on finance, accounting, management, and marketing practices. Differences in cultural norms and values are considered along with basic global social and economic institutions and the global economic and legal systems in which businesses operate. This course emphasizes thinking critically about ethics and sustainability as applied to global problems and communicating about these issues both in written and oral formats. Students will be required to reflect upon how concepts and theories addressed in the course, such as cultural differences on how products are marketed in different parts of the world, and upon how they are actually implemented by the organizations/firms. Students will participate in an online simulation to engage them actively in the application of the various functional areas introduced in the course. Students will reflect on the application and outcomes of that process as it applies to the course materials and to their own personal career preparation in the field of business.
CBAD 497 (Q) Business Internship. (Credit Hours: 3-12) (Pre-requisites: Junior standing, minimum GPA of 2.5, and approval of the Associate Dean) The Business Internship is a supervised work experience in a business setting. The specific work environment and student’s job responsibilities must be approved, in advance, by supervising faculty. Students must work a minimum of sixty (60) hours in the internship environment per credit hour earned. Students may receive from three to twelve (3–12) credit hours for the Business Internship course, which may be repeated up to three (3) times for credit; however, students cannot earn more than a total of twelve (12) business internship credit hours over the course of a single undergraduate program and only six (6) credit hours may be applied toward the minimum credit hours required for a single Coastal Carolina University degree.
Students will be employed by an appropriate firm or organization in their field of study. They will also be required to submit weekly activity logs relative to their workplace activities, establish specific learning goals, complete a reflective essay regarding the experience, and will be evaluated by their workplace supervisor. Students will also evaluate their internship site. Students will invest a minimum of 60 hours of on-the-job work experience for each academic credit hour earned over the course of the semester. In addition, students will invest time in maintaining their internship logs and preparing their reflection assignment.

CBAD/RTMA 474 Quality Process Management (Section Designation for Collins). (Credit Hours: 3) (Pre-requisites: A grade of C or better in CBAD 301 and completion of 84 semester hours) The systematic process through which managers regulate organizational activities to meet planned goals and standards of quality. Topics will include different types of quality control processes, total quality management, product and service quality techniques, and the uses of information technology for insuring quality. The student will participate in the Dalton & Linda Floyd Family Mentoring Program, which is a service-learning partnership that has been established between Horry County Schools and Coastal Carolina University. Students will be required to mentor a student in the public school system that has been identified as being 'at risk academically'.
Students will invest a minimum of fifteen hours in the program which includes a two-hour orientation and mentor training, two 75 minute lectures relevant to the program, several class discussions throughout the semester. Students will be required to visit their protégé a minimum of one hour per week throughout the semester and are strongly encouraged to participate in the full-day mentoring activity that is scheduled each semester (traditionally, a visit to Brookgreen Gardens in the fall or a Day in the Life of a College Student). In addition, students will invest time in maintaining their internship logs and preparing their reflection assignment.
