About the Program

For three weeks during the month of July Coastal Carolina University hosts a group of students from several of its partner universities around the globe. Participants in this program attend workshops that are delivered by Coastal Carolina University faculty, complete a number of assignments and go on fun trips. They explore Brookgreen Gardens, visit Alligator Adventure, play mini-golf; travel to Charleston and tour a local manufacturing facility. Participants also get to visit Habitat for Humanity of Horry County and the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce where they learn about one of the largest tourist destinations in the United States.

Program Objectives:

  • To teach participants about the United States’ business and economic environment and compare it to participants’ countries.
  • To educate participants about American culture, with an emphasis on Southern culture.
  • To learn about and enjoy the Myrtle Beach area.

Outcome of the Program:

Upon completion of the program, participants have a better understanding of the United States’ business environment, culture and economy. This program helps students compare the United States’ socioeconomic environment to their country’s socioeconomic environment. The program also helps students improve their English and make friends with students from other countries.

  • 90% of previously participating students agreed they would recommend this program to other students from their home school or organization
  • 90% of these students felt that they gained value through in class projects and tasks as well as out of classroom activities
  • All participating students indicated they found the class materials to be both informational and interesting.

“What I liked most about this program was the cultural experience, company visit, getting to know other students, discovering American life, interviews with American students, group trips and visiting the golf course” ….. A quote from a previous participant.

Grading Requirement:

Participants will pair up and write a 5-8 page essay in English about a topic in human resource management, cross-cultural management, the global environment or corporate responsibility.
