About Women in Philanthropy and Leadership
Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University (WIPL) was created to transform the lives of students at Coastal Carolina University and to make a difference in the greater community. This is accomplished by leveraging the impact of women and their donations of time, talent and resources.
WIPL was formed in 2007 under the leadership of Coastal Carolina University First Lady Terri DeCenzo (pictured right) and some of the area’s leading philanthropists, business professionals, and CCU faculty and staff, all of whom were committed to supporting the University through collective giving and annual donations. The pooled donations are used to provide scholarships to deserving students and to support programs that create leadership opportunities for women across disciplines.
Since 2007 the organization has awarded $140,000 in scholarships, including two awards for deserving students to attend the prestigious Washington Internship Institute to study global women’s leadership, and the Mr. Scott Pyle and Dr. Pamela Pyle "Make a Difference" Scholarship, first awarded for the 2013-2014 academic year. In 2013 the endowed scholarship fund passed the $100,000 mark and now supports a $5,000 scholarship each year; the first WIPL Legacy Endowed Scholarship has been awarded for Fall 2014. Since 2010, the Women’s Leadership Conference has featured more than 200 world-class speakers and the Celebration of Inspiring Women has recognized 25 women whose lives have made a significant impact in South Carolina, the nation and the world. Planning is under way for the fifth annual Conference and Celebration, to be held February 12-13, 2015.
