Biography

Biography

Denise Paster, an Associate Professor of English in Composition and Rhetoric, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2010), an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts Boston (2001), and a B.A. from Bridgewater State College (1999).

Dr. Paster's scholarly interests include writing program administration, reflective and inquiry-based pedagogies, teaching writing with emerging technologies, and qualitative research methods.

Her current research examines digital literacy practices and their pedagogical potential in the writing classroom. She is currently completing a composition textbook titled Writing Moves with two co-authors, Ellie Kutz and Christian Pulver. She is also interested in the potentials of digital badging, and publishes regularly with Alan Reid on the Coastal Composition Commons, a digital badging initiative central to first-year composition classes at Coastal Carolina University.

Her publications include “Digital Badges in Undergraduate Composition
Courses: Effects on Intrinsic Motivation,” “A Case Study of Digital Badges in Composition Courses,” "Beyond Grammar: Building Language Awareness in the Writing Classroom," and the Instructor's Manual to accompany Exploring Literacy.
