Those requiring a student F1 I20 or J1 to study at Coastal Carolina University must submit evidence of financial resources greater than or equal to the total annual estimated cost of two semesters (fall and spring shown above). These resources can include personal funds, athletic or other scholarships, merit awards, or government sponsorships.

** Living expenses are estimated on the basis of the academic year. Below is a breakdown of the expenses.

  • Housing: Room rates vary depending upon whether or not you live on-campus or off-campus and whether you live alone or share housing with others.
  • Meals: Food may be purchased at the University dining facilities, or you may choose to prepare your own food if you have cooking facilities.
  • Books: Books and educational supplies are estimated for the academic year. If you are attending summer school, book expenses will be higher.
  • Other living expenses: Estimated expenses include student health insurance, routine medical costs, clothing, laundry, recreation, and local transportation.

WHILE EVERY APPLICANT IS AUTOMATICALLY CONSIDERED FOR A MERIT AWARD, other scholarships are available through the Coastal Education Foundation that require a separate application. The timeline to apply is below along with a complete list of those available during each period.

 Coastal Carolina University is committed to the highest standards of academic excellence and recognizes outstanding freshman and transfer students through its merit award program. Merit Awards are based on academic criteria as demonstrated by performance in a rigorous high school program and by performance on standardized test scores, or by performance at a regionally accredited college or university based on collegiate GPA. New, incoming undergraduate students, both freshmen and transfers, are eligible for consideration.

University merit awards are automatically awarded to academically qualified applicants (new freshmen and transfers) who apply to the University by published priority application deadlines.

There are two types of tuition waiver program available at Coastal Carolina University: the Sister-State Program and the Non-Resident Tuition Waiver. A tuition waiver lowers tuition and fees costs significantly, resulting in savings of approximately $16,850 USD for Undergraduate students, and approximately $9,864 USD  for Graduate students.

Applicants must be ADMITTED to an academic program at Coastal Carolina University. If approved, the tuition waiver benefit applies throughout four years of study as long as the student remains in good academic standing. In order to qualify for this waiver, you must be able to demonstrate citizenship and legal residency as outlined in the Non-Resident Tuition Form.

Sister-State Agreement Program

Coastal Carolina University offers in-state tuition to students participating in the International Sister-State agreement program. Citizens of the following areas are eligible for in-state tuition for the current academic year:

    • Germany---State of Rhineland-Palatinate/Rheinland-Pfalz
    • Germany---State of Thuringia/Thüringen
    • Germany---State of Brandenburg/Brannenborg
    • Australia---State of Queensland---Australia
    • Taiwan, Republic of China

Designated International Special Cooperation Zones

Coastal Carolina University's Board of Trustees has approved a LIMITED number of non-resident tuition waivers for students who have citizenship and residency in the areas noted below as Designated International Special Cooperation Zones. Students who have citizenship and residency in the respective areas may apply for the non-resident tuition waiver reducing their tuition at Coastal Carolina University to the in-state rate.

After you have been accepted please complete the Non-Resident Tuition Waiver and email it to internationaladmissions@coastal.edu to be reviewed for this waiver.

In addition to our merit based scholarship awards, there are some opportunities available to help you pay your tuition at Coastal Carolina University. Below are resources from both Coastal Carolina University and outside organizations to help you find scholarships.

Icelandic Alumni Scholarship(transfer students from Commercial College of Iceland or other Menntaskólinn in Iceland)

This Icelandic Whales Alumni Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that carries an out-of-state waiver for up to five (5) scholarships per year. To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be admitted as a transfer student from the Commercial College of Iceland or other Menntaskóli and must provide evidence of passing the Studentspróf.
  • Have transferred into or earned at least 30 credit hours at the University.
  • Provide a written recommendation from the President of the Icelandic Whales Alumni Association.
  • Agree to take an active role in University campus life by explaining his or her plans for such involvement in University organizations and clubs and by demonstrating active involvement in school and community-based organizations in Iceland.

The scholarship award will be offered for a maximum of six (6) semesters. Students must be enrolled as full-time, degree-seeking students to receive the award. Awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. The award may be renewed for up to two (2) years providing the recipient earns a 3.0 cumulative CCU GPA, completes 30 credits annually, meets satisfactory degree progress, and demonstrates an active role in University campus life through meaningful engagement in University organizations and clubs.
