Application Process

The application process varies depending on your academic level. Please select the option that fits you.

International freshman applicants who have completed or will soon complete high school, and have not taken any additional classes outside of high school, should complete the following for admission to Coastal Carolina University.

STEP 1: Apply ONLINE or through COMMON APP

Click here to apply as a FRESHMAN and pay the application fee.

STEP 2: Request Secondary School Transcripts.

Request that your current school send official academic transcripts, mark sheets, grade reports, diplomas or certificates, national standardized examination results, or other academic coursework to CCU. There are two ways to get these documents.

  1. Enter the school information in the application. An email is sent to the school to request the documents.  The school can upload the documents using the link in that email. When the school submits the documents, they will be added to the application.
  2. Contact the school and ask them to email the documents to internationaladmissions@coastal.edu

Official documents should be submitted in the original language(s) AND with an official English translation if not in English. If you need assistance translating your documents, resources can be found at American Translators Association


STEP 3: Meet English Proficiency Guidelines and Request Test Scores.

I am from an approved English-speaking country OR I have attended high school in the US for at least two years. To complete my application... 

SAT and ACT test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to Coastal Carolina University. The institutional code for the SAT is 5837 and for the ACT is 3843

If you choose to exclude test scores, you may apply as Test Optional. You may be asked to submit additional information to support your application, such as letters of recommendation, and an essay or personal statement. You are encouraged to submit these documents with your application.

Be sure to check the list of acceptable English Proficiency tests and grades. Test scores or English courses meeting guidelines for proficiency should be sent directly from the testing agency or the school to Coastal Carolina University.

The institutional code for the TOEFL is 5837. When taking the IELTS or DUOLINGO ENGLISH TEST, request that Coastal Carolina University receive your scores. Scores must be within two years of the application date.


STEP 4: Make Sure to Submit All Required Documents

Make sure to check your email and your application portal on a regular basis. Items like a copy of your passport can be uploaded directly to your application. 

International Transfer Admissions Process

Transfer applicants to Coastal Carolina University are students who are or were enrolled in an accredited, institution after completion of secondary school.

Request that all post-secondary institutions you attended following high school send transcripts and any diplomas or certificates to internationaladmissions@coastal.edu

ALL international transcripts should be evaluated by an external credential evaluation company. Please request a course-by-course evaluation with GPA calculation. Coastal Carolina University will accept evaluations from ANY NACES or AICE member agency. We do not recommend any one evaluation company over another.

To meet English Proficiency WITHOUT submitting a test score, you must have 3 credit hours of English Composition with a “C” letter grade or higher;

AND

a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 at your current institution;

AND

a minimum of 24 transferrable credits of course work from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university OR from an accredited higher education institution located in the approved list of English-speaking countries. (see below) 

International Graduate Admissions Process

International Graduate applicants have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree at a regionally-accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent at an institution recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in their country.

Step 1: Review your academic department’s admission deadlines and requirements.


Step 2: Apply Online and pay the application fee.


Step 3: Request post-secondary transcripts required by your program.

When you fill out the graduate application, you will be asked which test you took and the date taken. If you have not completed the test when you apply, you will have the opportunity to provide this information later.


Step 5: Submit required test scores.

If the program you are applying to requires a standardized test, such as the GRE, GMAT, or MAT, official test scores must be received directly from the appropriate testing service. Coastal Carolina University's institutional code is 5837. On the graduate application, you will be asked to provide the name of the test and the date taken. If you have not yet taken the test, you can indicate that on the application.

Step 6: Provide other supporting documents.

Supporting documents such as resumes, goal statements or writing samples can be uploaded during the application process. All common file formats are allowed (e.g., doc., docx., and pdf.). Once you've submitted your application, you can upload additional documents later, if desired. An automated email will provide instructions for you to upload to a secure site. Required Application Materials

Official transcripts are required to complete your application. For a transcript to be accepted as official, it must be sent directly to CCU by the issuing institution in either a sealed, unopened envelope, or via email. In all cases, the record must be an official copy bearing an original stamp or seal by a school official. If the original transcript is not in English, students should also include a literal translation either certified by the academic institution as being complete and correct; OR sent directly to CCU by the translator or translation service through the web portal found above.  

Photocopies, scans, or faxes are not considered official. Transcripts sent to CCU directly from a student are not considered official. 

You are also encouraged to send Letters of Recommendation and Personal Statements to be considered with your application.

All Transfer students who have attended post-secondary educational international institutions, colleges, or universities outside the U.S, are required to submit original transcripts AND a professional, credential evaluation of all work completed with a course-by-course with GPA report. If the evaluation includes original transcripts, no second transcript from the school is required.

Duolingo Test

The Duolingo English Test is an online English proficiency test that can be taken online, on-demand, in under an hour for only $49. The test is taken via a computer with a camera and includes a proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample which are shared with [Coastal Carolina University-International Admissions: internationaladmissions@coastal.edu ] when you send your results. Certified results are available within 48 hours of the test session. Duolingo Test Results are only valid for two (2) years from the test date per Duolingo guidelines.
