Area ballet brings “The Nutcracker” to life on the CCU stage

This coming week at Coastal Carolina University, honors students put a new spin on a Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama and a local ballet troupe brings a performance of a yuletide classic to the Wheelwright Auditorium stage.

The Department of Cultural Arts and Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre (CYBT) presents the yuletide classic “The Nutcracker” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium. The annual, highly anticipated production features 60 of the area’s most talented young dancers together with CYBT ballerina Kiely Elizabeth Clark as the Sugar Plum Fairy and New York City-based guest artist Mikhail IIyin as the Cavalier. VIP Backstage Passes are available (for an extra fee) that allow passholders the opportunity to go backstage before the show and meet the dancers, have photographs taken, and receive an autographed poster. Visit cybt.org for details.
