CCU's Relay for Life raises big funds

This year’s Relay for Life, held at Coastal Carolina University’s Track on  April 8, crossed the finish line with some big numbers for a bigger-than-life cause.

More than 1,000 participants and nearly 70 teams surpassed the American Cancer Society’s fundraising goal of $80,000 and CCU’s goal of $90,000, with a total $111,000 raised as of April 13 (fundraising continues through August). Last year, the total amount raised was $87,162.

Brother and sister Vinnie Basiliko (Kappa Sigma member) and Amber Basiliko (Gamma Phi Beta president), who recently lost their mother to breast cancer, were the top two fundraisers at more than $9,000 and $8,000, respectively. This is the first Relay for Life in the state to reach the goal set by the American Cancer Society.
