Feel the Teal: Designed to Help You!

The mission of the Feel the Teal Service Excellence initiative is to create and sustain a stronger sense of institutional community and culture among Coastal Carolina University’s faculty, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders. This mission is accomplished by providing the infrastructure and service training necessary to ensure a productive, supportive and educational work environment.

We recognize the importance of investing in our University employees and are currently offering six of the eight service training modules of Feel the Teal. The continued education and training through the Feel the Teal workshops provide professional development and the unique opportunity for open discussion and collaboration across departments about service issues and solutions. Employees have shared service successes and struggles, and those conversations are valuable to our forward momentum.

It is vitally important that employees not only attend the training sessions but also actively participate. We all have something to offer, whether concerns or solutions, and we can learn by sharing our experiences. In this way, we can identify best practices and effective methods to better serve our customers. I ask that you please complete the module evaluations after training. Your feedback matters! I do read the assessments and bring key points to the Feel the Teal Leadership Team members for discussion.

Some departments, such as the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Analysis, find that it is advantageous to attend the modules as a group. Chris Mee, executive director of research and analysis, says that, “Attending the Feel the Teal trainings as a department allows us to tailor the discussion to the situations we face every day rather than those that may not be as relevant. Also, being among co-workers allows us to more freely discuss the topic at hand and enables us to work more closely as a team.” If your office would like to attend training sessions all together, please contact Director of Service Excellence Eileen Soisson at extension 2686 or via email at esoisson@coastal.edu.

Feel the Teal is designed to help YOU – to develop the positive attitudes and skills necessary to provide excellent customer service; to gain knowledge of the University’s history and traditions so as to instill pride in this institution and enable you to share this information with our stakeholders and the public at large; to assist with difficult situations and bring about positive results; and to practice civility and thereby encourage others to do the same. Our common goal is to consistently deliver quality service. Those who have participated in the training sessions and are implementing the lessons show what it means to Feel the Teal every day.
