Faculty recognition awards presented in Humanities College

Fourteen faculty members received 2010 Faculty Recognition Awards at a ceremony held Friday, April 30, presented by the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University.

The following awards were received:

Student Advisory Council Apple Awards:

• Aneilya Barnes, assistant professor of history, for teaching

• Ron Green, lecturer of philosophy and religious studies, for teaching

• Jason Ockert, assistant professor of English, for teaching

• Holley Tankersley, assistant professor of politics and geography, for teaching and adviser of the year

• Eliza Glaze, assistant professor of history, for teaching

College Awards:

• Ron Green, lecturer of philosophy and religious studies, Distinguished Teaching

• Holley Tankersley, assistant professor of politics and geography, Distinguished Service

• Philip Whalen, director of honors program, Distinguished Scholarship/ Creative Endeavor

Dean’s Awards:

• Mattieu Chan Tsin, assistant professor of foreign languages, Meritorious Service

• John Navin, associate professor of communication, Meritorious Service

• Arne Flaten, associate dean of Edwards College of Humanities & Fine Arts, Leadership

• John Beard, associate dean of Edwards College of Humanities & Fine Arts, Exceptional Service

Retiree Recognition:

• Lee Bollinger, associate profession of communication

• Jill Sessoms, professor of English

Jason Ockert has received the English Faculty of the Year Award presented by Sigma Tau Delta.

This year’s nominees were professors Steve Hamelman, Cynthia Port, Joe Oestreich and Ockert.

As the winner of the award, Ockert will be invited to give the keynote address at the spring 2011 Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society Induction Ceremony. The award was presented to Ockert by Sigma Tau Delta’s newly elected president, Stephanie Bouzounis.
