CCU's Department of Mail Services gives updates

In preparation for the Fall 2017 semester, the Mail Services department has been working on ways to improve services to the University community. All the services that the University Post Office currently provides are listed on the Mail Services website, http://www.coastal.edu/mailservices.

All employees in the Mail Services department are Coastal Carolina University employees who work under the United States Postal Services (USPS) rules and regulations.

As a Contract Postal Unit (CPU), we provide most of the services that the USPS does except for money orders and registered mail. The department has inquired about being able to process money orders with a few companies, but has not been given approval as of yet.

Our system was updated in January 2017 and can now provide international shipping with customs forms. You are still encouraged to print your own custom forms prior to shipping due to the lengthy system of processing customs forms. If tracking is needed for any item being sent by the department through Mail Services, please indicate that you would like tracking on your authorization slip. Most packages have tracking availability.

Due to heightened security policies by the USPS, the mail couriers cannot accept any personal prepaid packages during their mail runs. All personal packages must be taken to the Post Office counter, at which time a clerk will process the package according to USPS regulations.

When ordering packages or receiving letters or large envelopes, please include your department as part of the address. When items are received with just a name and not a department, it may cause delivery to be delayed.

We now provide passport services; however, we do not provide passport photos. They can be taken at any CVS, Walgreen’s or any location passport photos are taken. (The CINO Card office is currently working on the ability to provide passport photos.)

Passport processing is done by appointment only between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you are interested in obtaining a passport or any other passport service, please visit travel.state.gov prior to your appointment so that any forms needed will be filled out and ready for processing. The passport fee is $110 (payable to the Department of State by either money order or personal check) for first-time applicants and a $25 execution fee that must be paid in cash only. If you have any other questions, please contact Mail Services at ext. 2156.
