Amanda Williams came to Coastal Carolina University a little timid. Claiming to shy away from situations that would put her “out there” or require any sort of public speaking, Amanda played it safe at the start. However, it didn’t take long until the #TEALnation culture lured her in.
“Coastal has helped me gain confidence and do things I normally wouldn’t do,” Amanda says.
Would you believe that the girl who shunned speaking in front of others would soon embrace it? Amanda proved to be an energetic, positive influence and was hired for multiple leadership positions on campus. She landed orientation leader and resident adviser gigs, two roles that place a student prominently in front of the CCU community.
Don’t think that Amanda has shed her quiet demeanor completely. Instead of allowing it to hold her back, she now uses it in situations that are advantageous for her to observe and learn.
“I am one of those people that sits back and watches others,” Amanda confesses. “People might not notice me but I am always noticing things around me.”
Amanda’s ability to vocally inspire and silently observe has molded her into an impactful leader. With aspirations to become a lawyer, her unique leadership blend will help her tremendously. We are thankful to Amanda for touching so many students, especially our new ones, and making CCU a better place.
