Crabtree Greenway is new city administrator Adam Emrick’s favorite recreational amenity, but he thinks most people don’t even know it exists.
Using just a little creativity, he says, the Greenway can connect Conway High School with Frank Theatres, Walmart, the Conway Recreation Center and about half a dozen subdivisions while requiring walkers and cyclists to cross very few streets.

As one of Johanna and Reginald Camp’s 18 children, she is used to earning what she receives at home.

A jump rope contest that banned her because of her age was Amber Campbell’s first athletic challenge.
“I was only 5 years old, and you had to be 7 to compete, so I told my Mom,†Campbell said.
The three-time U.S. Olympian retired from professional athletics in July, and is now the organizational development coordinator for the City of Myrtle Beach.
A 2004 Coastal Carolina University graduate, the athlete will be honored at the 2018 Celebration of Inspiring Women on Feb. 5.

A Coastal Carolina University student turned dive instructor will be remembered in a very unique way. Christopher Chong was a crew member at Express Watersports and well-known around Murrells Inlet. After he passed away in a diving accident late last year, his friends and coworkers wanted to create a memorial in his honor.

Coastal Carolina students in Robert Johnson’s Apex Predators class are making a difference and raising money to conserve land that is halfway around the world.
At the beginning of the semester, Johnson gave his students a choice.
“This fundraiser was something I came up with and asked my students if they were interested,†said Johnson. “A lot of the work I do is international conservation, and I was just in Sumatra back in December and I came up with the idea while I was over there. CCU’s move-in day is typically one of the busiest days of the year for the Myrtle Ridge Walmart location, said Michael Willard, store manager. Willard says the day historically rivals that location’s Black Friday.

Former Coastal Carolina football star Josh Norman, an all-pro defensive back in the NFL, has donated $1.5 million to his alma mater.

This group of veterans, predominantly conservative senior citizens, provides incredible services for their fellow veterans. They assist VFW members that are unemployed, have physical and mental health challenges, or are otherwise in need of a helping hand. They provide meals, clothes, even financial support for their fellow veterans.

Several South Carolina groups are suing the federal government after it approved five permits to start an early offshore drilling process called seismic testing.
Before drilling for oil and natural gas off the Atlantic coast could begin, surveyors would use seismic air guns to see what's below the ocean floor.

Coastal Carolina alumnus and Greenwood native Josh Norman has announced that two of the three endowed scholarships he recently established as part of his $1.5 million donation to the university will be named in honor of his two favorite professors in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
The Robin E. Russell Scholarship will support students in the department of theatre, and the Linda P. Kuykendall Scholarship will support students in the department of communication, media and culture. The third scholarship is named the Joshua R. Norman Walk-On Student-Athlete Endowed Scholarship.

It took a tiebreaking vote at Conway Middle School before Conway native Abby Merrell was declared the school’s Teacher of the Year.
“I was very, very surprised. The other teacher is a really, really great teacher and I really thought she would win,†Merrell said.

After serving 12 years as Coastal Carolina University President, Dr. David DeCenzo announced Friday that his last day as president would be June 30, 2021.
The reason for such an early announcement was to give the search advisory committee for his replacement time to be formed, and to get moving on the search. DeCenzo plans to work directly with his replacement for a year before his departure.
