Coastal Carolina University is preparing to welcome some 1,700 new freshmen who begin arriving on campus this Saturday, Aug. 16. Fall semester classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 20. The following is an abbreviated version of the schedule of Welcome Week.

Saturday

* Residence Halls Move-in, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* Welcome Week Check-in, 1:30 to 6 p.m., Wall Building

* Parents Meeting, 3 to 4 p.m., Wheelwright Auditorium

* Welcome remarks, 7 p.m., Prince Lawn

* Comedian, 7:30 p.m., Prince Lawn

* Are you in Jeopardy session, 9 p.m., Wall Auditorium

* Social and Residence Life activities, 9 p.m., The Commons Courtyard

Sunday

* International Student Information Session, 9 to 10:30 p.m., Laurel Hall

* First Year Experience (FYE) session, 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., various locations

* Do's and Don'ts in the Classroom: Peer-to-Peer Tips, 3:15 p.m., Wheelwright Auditorium

* COPS Cookout, 5 to 7 p.m., The Commons, Department of Public Safety officers host dinner

Monday

* New Student Convocation, 9:30 a.m., Prince Lawn

* CINO Rally/Tailgate/Dinner, 5 to 8 p.m., Brooks Stadium

* Big Read Movie "Invisible Children, 8:30 p.m., Wall 317

Tuesday

* Making Good Choices, 9:30 a.m., Wheelwright Auditorium

* "Tell me something I don't know," 10:15 a.m., Wheelwright Auditorium

Welcome Week Shuttle schedule (Aug. 16 to Aug. 19) (University Place to Main Campus)

Saturday, Aug. 16: Noon to 11:30 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 17: 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 18: 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (A shuttle to the Coastal Science Center will run 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.)

Tuesday, Aug. 19: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
