Coastal Carolina University's Edwards College Film Series will be showing the film "Cabaret" on Tuesday Nov. 15, at 5 p .m. in the Coastal Theater of the Lib Jackson Student Union. The screening is free and open to the public.

"Cabaret" is a 1972 film set in 1931 Berlin, Germany, when professor Brian Roberts rents a room at the boarding house where the promiscuous American performer and cabaret singer Sally Bowles lives. The two soon become lovers, but things change when Sally meets a very wealthy man named Baron Maximilian von Heune; the baron seduces both Sally and Brian. In the meantime, the Nazi Party is rising to power.

Michael Gribbin, assistant professor at CCU, will lead a discussion following the presentation of the film. Gribbin earned a master's degree from the University of Illinois. He has conducted and played keyboards across North America with national tours of such shows as "Wicked," "The Lion King," "Monty Python's Spamalot" and "Les Miserables."

Gribbin plans on approaching the discussion in a theatrical approach and will focus on the historical significance of the film and the structure of the musical numbers. He will also discuss pre-war Germany in relation to the film.

This film is being shown as a part of the Edwards College Film Series focusing on the department of theater. The Coastal Theater is located in Room A-110 of the Lib Jackson Student Union, 106 Spadoni Park Circle, on the Conway campus.
