Coastal Carolina University will host Ed’s Hurricane Hustle and Expo on Saturday, June 1, from 7 a.m. to noon on campus at Brooks Stadium. The event, which is open to the public, is designed to help prepare area residents for the upcoming storm season.

The hustle will include 5K and 1-mile races, which begin at 8 a.m. and 8:10 a.m., respectively. Race packet pick-up will be available from 7-7:45 a.m. at the Apex Promoz registration table inside Brooks Stadium, accessible through Gate 5.

Parking is available on campus in lots GG and KK. The GG lot is located at the corner of Hwy. 501 and University Boulevard. The KK lot is located behind Lackey Chapel, which is at the corner of University Boulevard and University Drive. CCU will offer shuttles to and from Gate 4 of Brooks Stadium.

The family-friendly expo will feature area vendors, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations that specialize in hurricane preparedness, response, and recovery. There will also be a presentation by WPDE chief meteorologist Ed Piotrowski at 9:45 a.m.

“I can’t wait to see everyone run, walk, or crawl in the hurricane hustle and attend the expo,” said Piotrowski. “It’s a great way to get some exercise, have fun, and start preparing for the hurricane season! I couldn’t be more excited that Coastal Carolina University is hosting this year!” This year’s event is sponsored by the University, Conway Medical Center, JustServe, Myrtle Beach Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and WPDE.

Ed’s Hurricane Hustle and Expo is a CCU Presidential Signature Series event. Established by University President Michael T. Benson in 2021, the series features activities ranging from lectures and performances to art displays and community events.
