A teal tribute of remembrance

Memorials & Scholarships

The Rahnda Sprawls Ford Annual Scholarship Fund

This gift is being made in recognition/honor/memory of Rahnda Ford.

Rahnda was a lifelong lover of education and learning, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1990, her Master of Education Learning and Teaching degree from Coastal Carolina University in 2012, her degree as Education Specialist Instructional Technology from Coastal Carolina University in 2016, and had begun preparation for her dissertation as she completed work on her Doctoral degree while fighting cancer.

Rahnda was an amazing person. She was strong, determined, intelligent, and funny. She loved science, learning, travel, and sports. She spoke highly of her family, particularly her sons, and how proud she was of them. Rahnda was adamant about not letting her illness prevent her from accomplishing her dream of completing a Ph.D. She would do research and write papers during her treatments and never missed a class or a deadline, no matter how she felt. Even though she was going through a tough time, she kept her sense of humor and dedication to her job and her coursework. No matter what, she was not going to let anything stop her. Your generous donations will support the Rahnda Sprawls Ford Annual Scholarship Fund

In her job as an educator, she was super passionate about teaching science. She taught at AAST and worked with STEM teachers. She loved sharing her knowledge and experience with her students and her colleagues. Rahnda could always find something exciting about science to share with her students. Helping them see the importance and relevance of science was the foundation of her teaching. She was a National Board-Certified Teacher, Teacher of the Year in 2013 (Enjoy this local news article), and was an employee with Horry County Schools as an Instructional Coach at the Academy for the Arts Science and Technology in Myrtle Beach.

If there's any quote that embodies Rahnda and her spirit, it's the one by Maya Angelou:

“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” ~ Maya Angelou
