Student Positions

Thank you for your interest in a student position with University Housing. We have a variety of student positions that support the 5,300+ students who live in campus housing. Over the course of a year, we employ over 200 students in multiple positions varying from Desk Assistants helping residents with lock outs to Resident Advisers supporting a residential community to a Summer Housing Facilities Assistants who help prepare our buildings for the academic year. We hire some of the best and most dedicated student leaders and Chanticleers at Coastal Carolina University. Explore our positions by clicking on one of the links below.

The availability of positions can vary, so check Apply for Housing Employment in MyCoastalHome to apply for any open positions. Check out the CCU's Human Resources and Equal Opportunity website for current openings in other University departments. If you have any questions about any of the positions, please contact us at UHStudentJobs@coastal.edu. We look forward to having you as a member of our family!

Our custodial staff members are a key component for maintaining our buildings to support our residents' success. Our custodians keep our residential communities clean for our students, families and visitors. This can include emptying the outside trash, cleaning our community spaces or sweeping the stairwells. We have both full-time and student positions and hire a larger number during the summer months to assist with the summer turnover of buildings for both summer conferences and fall opening.

Desk Assistants (DAs) are undergraduate or graduate students who serve as customer service representatives at the area desks. Area Desks are the hub of information and activity in the residential community. DAs assist with check-ins, lock outs, emergency maintenance, and answer questions about University Housing or CCU in general.

Desk Managers (DMs) are undergraduate or graduate students who supervise the Desk Assistants (DAs) for an assigned are desk and serve as customer service representatives. Area Desks are the hub of information and activity in the residential community. DMs are responsible for the day-to-day management of the area desk, manage the desk schedule, training DAs and assist with regular desk responsibilities (check-ins, lock outs, emergency maintenance and answer questions about University Housing or CCU in general).

Resident Advisers (RAs) are undergraduate or graduate students who serve as live-in peer leaders and role models. Each RA is assigned to a wing, floor or building and the residents who live there. RAs participate in many hours of specialized training and work hard to create strong communities that enhance the on-campus living experience. They answer questions about the campus and residential facilities; help residents with community, personal and academic concerns; mediate group conflicts that may arise; coordinate programs and activities; and enforce University policies. There is an RA on duty in each community from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. and 24 hours on the weekends; the duty cell phone number is posted throughout each community for emergency use.

The application process for the next academic year (with positions starting in fall) will be open October 23, 2023 through January 26, 2024.
