What to Bring

Contact your roommate(s) or suitemates(s) prior to arrival to coordinate items for common area spaces. This is not an exhaustive list of items. If you are unsure if something is permitted or not, contact us directly before purchasing.

Recommended Items
  • Alarm clock
  • Bed linens, pillows, and blanket (go here to find your bed size)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Clothes hangers (hanging space is limited)
  • Hygiene products and grooming appliances (soap, deodorant, hair dryer, curling iron, and etc.)
  • Iron (with automatic shut-off) and ironing board
  • Kitchen utensils and supplies (the Gardens, the Woods and University Place)
  • Lamp
  • Laundry products
  • Microwave (less than 1,000 watts); microwaves provided in University Place
  • Paper products - paper towels, bathroom and facial tissues
  • Refrigerator - 4.6-cubic-foot limit and approved by Underwriters Laboratories (UL); full-size refrigerators are provided for residents in the Gardens, the Woods and University Place
  • Single-serve coffee maker (e.g. Keurig)
  • Small vacuum cleaner
  • Television (non-mounted) with streaming capabilities
  • Towels and toiletries; shower curtain for University Place residents
  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approved power-strip (FM and ETL also okay)
  • Umbrella
  • Wastebasket with plastic bags

  • Candles, incense and candle/wax warmers
  • Decorative alcohol containers
  • Electric blankets/electric mattress pads
  • Electric heaters
  • Electric-powered scooters (e.g. Hoverboards)
  • Grills (charcoal and gas)
  • Halogen, neon, black, or lava lamps/lights
  • Lamps or other electrical devices with secondary outlet built-in
  • Over-the-door hanging items/devices
  • Pets (other than fish in a tank of 10 gallons or less)
  • Self-adhesive LED light strips
  • Small kitchen appliances (e.g. deep or air fryers, toaster/toaster oven, etc. and any items with an open heating element)
  • Upholstered furniture (e.g., couches, futons, chairs, bean bags, etc.)
  • Weapons, firearms, replicas, water guns or airsoft guns
  • Wireless routers and Internet switches

University Housing has two different bed sizes, extra-long twin and full. Your assignment determines which size you will have. Before purchasing bed linens, make sure you confirm the right size. Please be aware if your housing assignment changes, it may also affect the bed linens you need to purchase.

Extra-long twin size beds (36" x 80")

Mattress is 36" x 80". Bed springs can be adjusted to allow up to 31" of storage space underneath except for Elvington Loop. For buildings on Elvington Loop (Chanticleer, DeCenzo, Singleton-Young, and Tradition), the space underneath is 33.5" at the highest level.

Full-size beds (54" x 75")

Mattress is 54" x 75". Space underneath the bed can vary based on the type of bed in the bedroom. Wood slat beds have approximately 16" of storage space underneath and spring-style beds have approximately 32" of storage space underneath.

All measurements on this page are approximations and based on the average room. Bedrooms and furniture can vary between bedrooms, suites, apartments and communities.

Chanticleer, DeCenzo, Singleton-Young, and Tradition Halls
  • Bedroom: 11' length x 13' width/depth
  • Closet: 35.5" length x 29.5" width/depth x 95" height
    • Top bar is 10.5" from top
    • Shelf is 32" from top
    • Closet rod is right below shelf
  • Three-drawer dresser: 30" length x 23" width x 30" height
  • Desk: 32" length x 24" width x 30" height
  • One-drawer end table: 17" length x 24" width x 30" height
  • Windows: 46" length x 81.5" height
  • Each cubby in the bathroom (12 total): 8.5" length x 12" width x 14.5" height
  • Each bathroom has 3 sinks, 2 toilets and 2 showers. Some bathrooms may have an extra shower if shared with the RA room.
