Mandatory Training at CCU

As an employee of Coastal Carolina University, you are required to fulfill training requirements specific to your position. This is dictated by the 2021 Mandatory Training Matrix. Following are the mandatory training areas with links to additional information source documents and policies that may be useful to you in specific circumstances:

If you work with chemicals, work in a trade specialty, or have certain job risks, you will be required to complete additional training required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). To view any additional safety training that may be required, visit Environmental Health and Safety Required Training. When the appropriate questions on the Safety Training Matrix Flowchart are answered, a list of the OSHA training requirements specific to your job duties will appear, if applicable.

Compliance and Ethics

  • Coastal Carolina University is committed to following the highest standards of ethical behavior. These standards include respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals as well as upholding obligations to others in a fair, honest manner. This training is designed to familiarize you with the mission and purpose of University Compliance and the Code of Ethical Conduct. This online training will also help you identify scenarios where such standards are challenged.

FERPA

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to Coastal Carolina University and all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education, including Coastal Carolina University. As employees of Coastal Carolina University, we all must understand this law so that we properly handle protected information and remain in compliance with the law. This online training module explains what FERPA is, what is considered an educational record, who may have legitimate access to protected information, and what rights the law grants to students regarding their educational records.

Protection of Minors

  • Coastal Carolina University is committed to providing a safe, protected environment for children under the age of 18 who participate in activities and programs at the University. Therefore, all University employees must complete this online training module, which will better prepare you for protecting minors.

General Safety

  • Working safely should be of paramount importance to all University employees. This training provides a comprehensive foundation for creating a safe working environment. Examples of topics covered in this online training include workplace safety awareness, falls, exit routes and emergency action, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, basic hazardous communication, material handling, bloodborne pathogens, fire protection and prevention, confined space awareness, and lockout/tagout.

Sexual Harassment Prevention

PCI (Payment Card Industry Data Security)

  • Coastal Carolina University is committed to protecting and preserving the privacy and security of payment card data while conducting University business operations. All University employees that accept credit card payments are required to complete this online training.

Public Safety

S.A.F.E. Response to Violence (formerly Active Shooter)

  • The S.A.F.E. Response to Violence is an easy way to remember the actions that need to be taken in any given situation that threatens the personal safety of a member of the Coastal Carolina University community. S.A.F.E. stands for Secure, Alert, Fight, and Escape. The S.A.F.E. method is meant to empower individuals during a threatening situation and equip them with ideas and knowledge of what to do in dangerous situations by proactively providing a plan of action. This one-hour session – that you must attend in person – is provided by Coastal Carolina University Department of Public Safety officers who have extensive knowledge in the areas of both law enforcement and civilian response to active shooters or armed aggressors. The session will be a mixture of both presentation and audience participation exercises that help promote the S.A.F.E. Response to Violence model.
