Why CCU for Music Technology?

In today’s media-driven world, sound is manipulated in ways that enhance and compliment messages conveyed. Music and audio play an integral role, and music technology seeks to fill a gap by developing professionals with the technological know-how to compete in today’s market.

The Master of Arts in Music Technology is an exciting program designed to develop the technological, professional, commercial, and media skills of the music and audio professional in our competitive marketplace. This 30-credit degree is broken into three blocks (recording, media, and entrepreneurial/practical skills) which diversify the music professional’s skill set and increase marketability. Program coursework is focused on developing applied media skill sets to be effective in the marketplace. This culminates with a capstone project which will develop the student’s professional portfolio.

Graduates of the Master of Arts in Music Technology program at CCU have come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including music education, classical/jazz/commercial music performance, music business and industry, arts management, as well as individuals who have an undergraduate degree in a non-musical field but are seeking a formalized training in music technology.

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate assistantships are available each year and come in a wide variety of technology-related duties. Students interested in developing their teaching abilities can apply for a graduate assistantship as a music technology assistant, ensemble assistant, or music technology lab tutor. Students interested in developing their portfolio and on-the-job training can apply to aid in the Wheelwright recording studio, live concert reinforcement and recording, audio archiving and restoration projects.

Admission Requirements

In addition to a graduate application, applicants will need to provide a statement of interest (500 words); two letters of recommendation, and a cloud-based portfolio with at least two of the following: Engineered live audio recording; Engineered studio audio recording; Mixed and/or mastered audio recording (live or studio); Audio recording featuring sequenced or programmed recording; Video featuring original composed music synced to visuals.
