CCU's Center for Education and Community gets new director
As director of the center, her duties include coordinating programs that include mentoring, outreach, education, training, resource for the community, families and K-12 education. Sally Hare, who previously held the position, retired at the end of last year.
Savage-Davis is also an associate professor of education at Coastal. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Illinois University, a master's degree in education from Chicago State University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Illinois State University. Prior to coming to CCU, she was an assistant professor at Longwood University and an associate professor at James Madison University.
Coastal's Center for Education and Community was created by the Horry County Higher Education Commission in 1988 to provide public outreach and conduct applied research in the areas of education and community. “The Center is based on the belief that we cannot improve or change education without also improving and changing the community,” said Savage-Davis. The Center acts as community connection to provide programs, bring community resources into the University and provide resources of the University to the community through programs, projects and initiatives.
