CCU presents Bankston and Broussard in Concert
The event is open to the public, and the cost is $8 for general admission and $6 for CCU alumni and senior citizens.
Bankston has performed extensively in opera and musical theater, including leading roles in companies such as the Houston Grand Opera, Washington Opera, and New Orleans Opera. Folk, pop and rock music were his first loves, however. Bankston began playing the guitar at age 15, and by age 17, singing professionally. His autobiographical CD "Galvez Town" was named one of the "10 Best CDs of 2002" by The Sun News.
Sam Broussard is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Lafayette, La., the heart of the Cajun bayou country. Since the release of his CD "Geeks," Broussard has been composing an opera entitled "Shady Acres."
He and Bankston recorded for Capitol Records together in the 1970s and cofounded the folk-rock group Manchild. Broussard has earned acclaim from critics and fans for the wit of his lyrics, the power of his voice, and the virtuosity of his guitar playing.
Currently the lead guitarist for Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Broussard has worked with many recording artists during his career, including Jimmy Buffet, Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil and Michael Martin Murphy. He played lead guitar on Murphy's hit single, "Wildfire," in 1975.
