CCU Funk Fusion Ensemble debuts at jazz showcase

The Coastal Carolina University New Jazz Ensemble, directed by Chris Connolly, will perform in a jazz showcase on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. This will also be the debut performance of the CCU Funk Fusion Ensemble, under the direction of Kenny Anderson. Tickets are $7, with discounts available, and can be purchased at the Wheelwright Box Office.

The student ensembles will perform selections from the "American Songbook," traditional jazz standards, funk, post-bop and contemporary musical styles in a variety of ensemble configurations. The music will include performances of songs by Billie Holiday and the Brecker Brothers, Bjork and Beyonce, to name a few.

Connolly teaches low brass at CCU, is a music arranger and has a jazz CD out, "Since Last We Met."

Senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5, and CCU/HGTC students and children may purchase them for $3.

Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle, Conway. The box office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
