Chauncey’s Choice earns 2024 Green Restaurant Award; two additional dining locations achieve GRA certification
Committed to environmental sustainability, CCU Food Crew partnered with Planet Ozzi to remove all single-use to-go containers from dining halls across campus. As an alternative, all to-go orders are served in reusable containers, significantly reducing the amount of single-use plastics on campus. In addition to reusable to-go containers, Chauncey’s Choice offers a comprehensive selection of reusables for in-house dining, with no disposable options available.
“At dining locations, we believe that every decision we make can have a positive impact on the planet,” said Malissa Ivey, resident district manager for CCU Food Crew. “Receiving the 2024 Green Restaurant Association Award for Reusables and Green Disposables reaffirms our dedication to prioritizing sustainability in every aspect of our operations.”
Jessica Middleton, CCU Food Crew sustainability manager, said she is excited about this recognition: “Chauncey’s Choice has been a leader in implementing sustainable dining practices on our campus. This recognition further validates our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and inspiring others to do the same.”
In addition to this recognition, two other on-campus dining establishments managed by CCU Food Crew earned green certification. CCU is the first university in South Carolina to have multiple restaurants achieve Green Restaurant Certification. With an impressive 311.13 GreenPoints™, Hicks Dining Hall has been recognized with a 4-star Green Restaurant certification, earning an exceptional rating. With 192.72 GreenPoints™, Coastal Catering earned a notable 3-star Certified Green Restaurant Catering Operations status.
