May 30, 2024

Coastal Carolina University’s Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics recently held the 25th annual Economic Growth and Real Estate Summit at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach. During the summit, the recipients of the 2024 South Carolina Real Estate Awards and South Carolina Real Estate Hall of Fame inductees were recognized. The awards and hall of fame are sponsored by Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation and Mashburn Construction.

The summit is a premier networking event where leaders from the private and public sectors discuss key issues impacting their organizations, meet potential new clients and partners, and share ideas for a stronger economy. This year’s theme was “Managing capital investment in today’s economy.”

“As we navigate the dynamic landscape of today’s economy, private investment plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of real estate markets,” said Robert F. Salvino, Ph.D., director of the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics. “This summit provides a platform for insightful discussions and strategic collaborations, empowering stakeholders to capitalize on emerging opportunities and drive sustainable growth.”

The following three awards were presented: the South Carolina Economic Development Award; the Commercial Real Estate Award; and the South Carolina Educational Impact Award. Each winning property is an exceptional development, promoting an ongoing, sustaining initiative, and impacts economic development and/or the local community.

The recipient of the South Carolina Economic Development Award is DC BLOX. The Commercial Real Estate Award is SayeBrook Town Center. The recipient of the South Carolina Educational Impact Award is CCU’s Thompson Library, which will open in Fall 2024.

The 2024 South Carolina Real Estate Hall of Fame inductees are Mary Emily and Nelson Jackson, founders of The Jackson Companies. After inheriting 2,300 acres of land, which included nearly one mile of oceanfront, they founded The Jackson Companies with their five daughters. In the 1970s, Crystal Lake Mobile Home Village and Ocean Lakes Family campgrounds were among the first developments of The Jackson Companies. Following in the late 1980s and 1990s, Prestwick Country Club was developed. Recent commercial developments include SayeBrook Town Center, Ocean Lakes Village, and the mixed-use SayeBrook development. Several of The Jackson Companies’ businesses have been nationally recognized in both the golf and camping industries. Their five daughters have remained committed to helping shape the landscape of the Myrtle Beach community and the state by preserving and enhancing the value of the properties entrusted to them. Their five daughters attended the summit and accepted the hall of fame award.

The presenting sponsor for this year’s event was KingOne Properties International; the breakfast sponsor was Tony & Carrie Grant Fund; the networking break sponsor was E. F. Hucks & Associates; and the South Carolina Real Estate Hall of Fame and South Carolina Real Estate Awards sponsors were Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation and Mashburn Construction.
