Psychology

Welcome to Psychology

The Department of Psychology offers both a major and a minor in psychology. The Bachelor of Science in Psychology program emphasizes the scientific nature of psychology. For students interested in more specialized training, concentrations are available in both behavioral neuroscience and forensics.

The psychology faculty has expertise in a wide variety of areas including experimental, social, developmental, cognitive, biological, school, and clinical psychology. Our faculty are excellent teachers and active researchers in the field, presenting at conferences, contributing to articles and books to the research literature, and sharing their findings and expertise with the media.

Through our research methods sequence of courses, students gain extensive knowledge and experience by designing and conducting research. Students are encouraged to present findings at local, regional, and national conferences and pursue journal article publications with faculty mentors. Motivated majors may find additional opportunities to join faculty research labs as research assistants. Students may also choose to participate in internships with mental health facilities, counseling centers, community organizations, government agencies, and businesses. Research and internship experiences enhance student career prospects for employment and graduate education.
