Rotary Global Grant
The Rotary Global Grant provides a one-year scholarship of between $30,000 - $50,000 to complete graduate coursework over a 10-month to one-year period abroad. The grant is supported by Rotary International as a part of its commitment to support exchange and promote improvement in one of the six key areas of focus for Rotary:
- Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
- Disease Prevention and Treatment
- Water and Sanitation,
- Maternal and Child Health
- Basic Education and Literacy
- Economic and Community Development

How to apply
By February 1 annually, candidates must either be nominated by a CCU faculty or staff member or self-nominate by sending a memo to Associate Provost Dr. Darla Domke-Damonte requesting consideration and invitation to the mentoring process, along with one-page narrative in which the candidate describe how this program is a good fit for the candidate’s past activities and involvement, commitment to lifelong community service, and professional goals as well as in which area of focus and graduate program you have interest. Memos should be directed to ddamonte@coastal.edu and only electronic applications will be accepted.
To get started
- Identify which area of focus you would like to contribute to. Check out the link at: https://www.coastal.edu/globalinitiatives/prestigescholarinitiatives/rotaryglobalgrant/ to see the areas of focus and details about what kinds of programs/activities are allowable)
- Identify at least one graduate program that you have interest in that is located in a country in which there is a Rotary Club (see https://my.rotary.org/en/search/club-finder to find out where Rotary Clubs are located around the world).
- Develop and send to Dr. Darla Domke-Damonte (ddamonte@coastal.edu) by February 1, 2019, a one-page narrative in which the candidate describe how this program is a good fit for the candidate’s past activities and involvement, commitment to lifelong community service, and professional goals, as well as the area of focus and academic program in which you are interested.
- Participate in the mentoring process, beginning with the mandatory meeting on February 5 (Tuesday) from 4:30 – 5;30pm in LJSU A214) with the mentoring team. Future dates will be shared with those who are advanced after that meeting in the process. Involved in that mentoring will be CCU's winner of the scholarship last year, Ms. Madison Scholar (2019-2020 Rotary Global Grant recipient to the United Kingdom).
Applicants MUST:
- Must complete an undergraduate degree before the beginning of the grant (by Summer 2020).
- Must be interested in working on a graduate degree abroad that fits in one of the six areas of focus for Rotary as noted above.
- Be engaged actively in the student’s discipline here at Coastal Carolina University
- Currently have at least a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Must demonstrate extensive involvement in at least 2 community service projects/initiatives and a commitment to community service as a way of life.
- Be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Next Application Cycle
Review and submissions begin in January 2019 for the 2020/2021 cycle. Applicants in this cycle will work with Madison Scholar, our most recent winner of the grant!
